Looks like it may have been manufactured for the book. - Contents: Story gives a picture of Japanese life during a crucial part of world history. (from intro) "... a novel. The characters are taken from real life. The story tells how seven Japanese boys studied, played, thought, struggled, fought, loved married, worked; how two of them died; how those who survive look at the present and future of their own lives and at their country and the world."
